The Wait Is Over

Shango Premium Cannabis has opened its doors to the very first customers of legal recreational marijuana in the state of Oregon. Shango, which has three stores in greater Portland, is celebrating this historic moment and ushering in this new era of legal cannabis in celebration with its customers, staff and friends. The brand has been planning for this since Measure 91 passed November 1, 2014.

Shango’s Win Sivers location opened its doors at midnight October 1st to line just like you would see surrounding an Apple store and the release of a new iPhone. Eager recreational customers and OMMP card holders were excited to be among the first 25 customers through the door as they received a very nice discount on flower.  Co-founder Shane McKee said the first sale came about a minute after midnight and many others quickly followed. “I think it’s not only historical for folks in Oregon, but nationwide — anytime people start selling that as an alternative to alcohol or tobacco,” he said in a telephone interview with the Associated Press.

Davia Fleming, a 29-year-old from Portland, was first in line at Shango Win Sivers (by the airport) in Portland. She said she was blown away by how professional and beautiful our retail store was when speaking with reporters from local media, Mashable and the Associated Press. “It’s the end of a prohibition,” said Fleming, who uses the drug for medicinal purposes.

Shoppers have one more incentive to buy early and often: Under Oregon law, pot purchases will be tax-free until January — a savings of up to 20 percent.

Shango’s Other Two Locations Opened at 10 a.m.

Shango Harold and Shango Hillsboro were not scheduled to open to the recreational market until this morning at 10 a.m. Both new recreational and existing medical customers lined up eager to be among the first to buy legal recreational marijuana in the state of Oregon at the other two locations too.

“It was a historic moment for Shango and all the recreational users in the state of Oregon that finally have the ability to buy quality lab tested product in a safe environment,” McKee said.

Adrian Perte, owner of Shango Hillsboro, has seen a tremendous amount of business in Hillsboro since its grand opening to the OMMP cardholders July 1. “I am really excited to be a part of this new era in cannabis and look forward to being able to serve both the medical and new recreational customers with really high quality product. Safety, quality and freshness means a lot to our patients, stated Adrian.
